Description
In Neversoft’s Gun you take the role of Colton White, super macho rugged mountain man in leather.
You are caught up in a mystery left by your now dead father. At least he was nice enough to leave you a chip for a whore house in the big city! Pa was the best wasn’t he?
Gun has a very in depth storyline with a lot of cut scenes to progress the story. Filled with story’s of whores, bears, and Indians oh my! At times they carry on a bit too long and come too often. I felt it got in the way of the game at times. Probably wouldn’t have felt that way if the graphics were a little better, the prostitute scenes would of held my attention longer! Needless to say this is not a game for young children.
You start off with the basics: you have your trusty six shooter, a rifle, and a skinning knife. Eventually you pick up a few other things like bow and arrows and shotguns, but for the most part you’ll be using the basics all the way through the game. And at 8 – 10 hrs gameplay, that won’t take long. I did however enjoy using the “quickdraw” feature that slows down time so you can pop the bad guys in the forehead with some hot lead. This slo mo feature is fast becoming a standard component in fps games.
There are mini games in Gun that allow you to divert from the main story line and adventure around to earn cash. Allowing you to upgrade your skills and equipment. Things like sneaking around town stealing horses for you and your cohorts to escape on, or protecting workers from those evil Indians. These get kind of repetitious and tedious at times but does break up the game a little so you don’t feel led through the whole game.
I liked the western theme to the game and had fun playing through most of it. Better upgrades and control over your characters growth would have been nice, some of the upgrades available seemed useless. At least it wasn’t another “kill the terrorists” game. It was refreshing to kill some damn Injuns and stinky Hillbilly bandits’ for awhile. All things said, with no multiplayer I see no replay value here at all.
