Description

Well I just tried Jowood productions “The Mark” demo this week. Your standard covert operations against terrorism gimick.
While I don’t really have anything overly bad to say about the game, I don’t really have anything to rave about either.
In the game you can play 2 characters through out the game. You can switch between Fletch, he has slo mo ability for short periods, and Hawkee, who has nightvision.
You can change between the two in between levels so there are several ways to approach the game. Of course you have the usual assortment of weapons to destroy the terroists who are determined to blow up London…or something to that effect anyway.
One hilarious thing in this game is when the suicide bomber guys run up on you they throw their hands in the air as they charge at you, you get to pop them in the forehead its pretty funny looking.
Anyway the graphics are nice, nothing to get too excited about. It will run pretty smooth on a “less fortunate” computer. I must admit there is plenty of stuff to blow up and the AI is ok, could use a little work. It seems the slo mo feature is fast becoming a standard in fps games.
The demo was only single player but I got this info off www.themark.eu about multiplayer:
Multiplayer: The Mark offers a full suite of multiplayer choices. It can be played both over a local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN). You can choose from several types of multiplayer games:
Cooperative. This includes two modes: two-player (where one player is Fletch, and the other Hawke - 6 specially designed battlefields) and massive cooperative (up to 16 players, playing as Fletch, Hawke or US Marine - 4 specially designed battlefields).
Team deathmatch. Up to 16 players can join in a battle to the death; the team that survives wins. You can choose from 2 specially designed battlefields.
Map control. This mode is especially rewarding for players who like to think strategically: it involves controlling multiple locations for a winning point total. You can choose from 3 specially designed battlefields.
There are developers tools available to any aspiring mappers and moders out there. Over all I think this game will fly under the radar for the most part. There is nothing new or special about this game as far as I can tell from the demo anyway.
