Well, after taking a break from FPS gaming, mostly Battlefield 2142 and any other Half Life 2 variants I decided to get back into it. I guess stress of work and life made me want to shoot somebody.
Now, usually I would satisfy my fps cravings with a nice healthy game of BF 2142 that lasts till 3 a.m., and then I would wake up at 7 or 8 with headache and red eyes and get dressed for work. Later on, I would spend the whole day at work in a nice hazy bliss and a feeling of satisfaction.
After not playing for almost a month, I guess I forgot how “thick” Battlefield 2142 is. I do not have a better way of explaining this to anybody who hasn’t played this game. It takes forever for this game to start or go through the necessary motions. Why the heck when I want to play DOD or CS:Source or anything else based on Half Life, it loads nicely. On the other hand, most of Battlefield series takes forever. Curse you gods of EA gaming!!!
All I wanted to do was to fire up my good ole trusty beast of a machine and immerse myself into senseless carnage for the next 6 hours. I know gamers all over the world always complained about how buggy and slow BF series is. I know EA made some improvements on loading times and stuff, but common, I do not want to spend half an hour just to connect to a server and to find out it is full of jackasses or it is now empty. I want instant gratification and I want it now!!! If I wanted to spend time getting dressed and taking shower and then go out, I would’ve done that, but instead I decided to stay at home in my underwear and do some fragging.
So, does this mean that I hate Battlefield series or anything EA has to offer? No and no again. All I’m saying that for all the money EA makes, they got to do something about various bugs or this thick feeling you get when you try to play Battlefield 2142 or Battlefield 2. It is an excellent series and I love both of those games with couple of my buddies and do some coordinated strikes or defending our own bases. Battlefield series is the only reason why I bought an actual joystick. A joystick for a PC game!!! Nothing beats flying an attack helicopter around the TV station on Battlefield 2 map and spam the heck out of the roof.
So in the end, I still got my fps cravings, and now I’m digging through my magic box full of various fps games that I haven’t played in ages. Hmm, Soldier of Fortune 2 Double Helix looks pretty good now.
